Exploring regional disparities in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) enrollment across rural Colorado counties
Project Overview
Colorado currently employs a county-administered SNAP system, meaning that individual counties are responsible for getting everyone who is eligible for SNAP enrolled in the program. However, while some counties have been very successful in getting eligible people enrolled, many of the counties outside southeastern Colorado have not been able to do the same. Understanding the county-level factors that impact SNAP enrollment will highlight what demographics of people are not receiving the appropriate aid for their financial situations and benefit rural Colorado as a whole by drawing attention to a long overlooked community.
